Rolex and Patek Philippe, two of the most prestigious luxury watch brands in the world, have withstood the test of time. Patek Philippe has been creating watches for over 180 years, while Rolex has been making luxury timepieces for 110 years. Rolex is the premier luxury watch brand that’s known worldwide. While both Rolex and Patek Philippe watches are known to appreciate in value, if I want to sell my Rolex in Atlanta, GA, here are some things to consider.

Patek Philippe

Patek Philippe is the third most recognized brand of Swiss-made watches in the world, trailing only Rolex and Omega. But for those who know luxury watches, a Patek Philippe timepiece is seen as the pinnacle of Swiss watchmaking and a piece of art. The Swiss brand’s watches, where the price of entry-level models begin at $19,000, often sell for twice as much secondhand. Waiting lists for a Patek Philippe timepiece can be up to five years.

Patek Philippe is very selective when it comes to sellers of its brand, so you won’t find them as easily as you would a Rolex. Patek Philippe produces only about 50,000 watches a year—35,000 of which are mechanical men’s watches. The Swiss watchmaker has produced fewer than 1 million timepieces since the company’s inception.

Patek Philippe currently offers about 200 different models. Most men’s watches include the Calatrava, Nautilus, Aquanaut, Complicated, and Grand Complication families. The models are often differentiated by the complication they have. For example, a standard three-hand (minute, hour, and second) Nautilus with no complications is often referred to simply as Nautilus.

Rolex

Rolex is the most recognized Swiss watch brand in the world. It’s the third most valuable Swiss brand. Rolex is known for creating tool watches that are practical and impressively accurate with their superlative chronometers. Rolex has attracted many high-profile customers, including many Hollywood celebrities. Rolex watches have appeared in over 100 movies, including many of the iconic James Bond flicks.

Rolex developed the world’s first certified chronometer in 1910. In 1926, Rolex created the first dust-and-waterproof watch, and in 1931, Rolex patented the first-ever perpetual self-winding mechanism.

Rolex creates watches for specific purposes, like diving watches, sports watches, racing watches, and pilot watches. The Rolex brand message is that of adventure and a watch that you can count on during any activity you undertake. A Rolex watch has the longest warranty period in the industry with a 5-year warranty.

Investment Value

When it comes to investment value, both Patek Philippe and Rolex watches stand head and shoulders above other brands. Patek Philippe’s iconic slogan from its ad campaign says: “You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation.” Patek Philippe has one of the highest resell values among its competitors with the exception of Rolex. A Patek Phillipe watch sold for over $11 million, second only to a Rolex that was worn by actor Paul Newman.

Some of the most collectible Rolex models are the Day/Date, the Submariner, the Yacht-Master, the GMT, and the Daytona. Certain features, like the bezel and the symbol of the crown, can significantly increase the Rolex’s value. But, as a general rule, if you’re in the market for a used Rolex, Rolex sports watches tend to hold their value the best and often appreciate the most.
